My Math Basketball Experiment with Jonathan!

Grade 10 Maths

On February 22, 2011 Tuesday, in math class we did a dropping basketball experiment. We tried in different places (walls) to get the best video.

Materials: Basketball, chalk, video camera, meter ruler and wall

1.     Find the materials
2.     Find a wall and measure the height. Mark the wall every 10-centimeter with chalk.
3.     Use a chair and go up and drop the basketball (since we need to drop it as high as possible)
4.     Record it several times to get the best video.

The process was quite simple, and materials that we needed were easy things to get. We tried on different walls and I realized that it’s easier to take the video and measure with the walls that have some patterns on it. We did it on the wall that was made from many 30-centimeter blocks piled up vertically, so it was easier for us to measure the wall, because we already knew that one block was 30 centimeter long.

Everything went find, and easy, but it was difficult to drop the basketball vertically so that the ball does not move horizontal. Only because of this, we had to try several times to make the ball to drop and make it not to move horizontally.

  2. Everything looks great but I don't see your video. It is also necessary to explain what the graph is showing us. You are definitely on the right track for communicating your work properly. Nice job.
